Young Woman and the Sea

Set in 1920s New York, the story follows Trudy Ederle, daughter of German immigrants who survives a harsh case of measles and discovers freedom in the water. With support from her older sister, demanding coaches, and busy beaches at Brighton and Coney Island, she climbs from local races to the Olympic team. Training for a risky 21‑mile attempt across the English Channel, she faces skeptical officials, controlling handlers, and strict rules for women, giving the film an intimate, energetic tone built on determination and hope.
