At a remote Catholic church in upstate New York, detective Benoit Blanc is called in when a fiery monsignor dies during a packed Good Friday service inside a locked viewing chamber. The only witnesses are a troubled young priest, Jud Duplenticy, and a tight-knit flock that includes a wealthy patron, a stern lawyer, a local doctor, and other parish regulars, all hiding secrets. The film blends a twisty whodunnit with dark comedy and gothic atmosphere, following Blanc as he picks apart church politics, questions of faith, and the strange rituals of a community that would rather cling to miracles than face the truth.
