The Swimmers

Teenage sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini are elite swimmers in war-torn Damascus whose routines and family life collapse as the Syrian civil war intensifies. Forced to flee, they board an overcrowded dinghy to Greece, using their skills in the water to help fellow passengers survive a dangerous sea crossing. The film traces their uncertain path through Europe and Yusra's effort to train again with a German coach while still dreaming of the Rio 2016 Olympics. The tone blends tense journey scenes with intimate, hopeful moments, focusing on sisterly loyalty, the refugee experience, and a young athlete's determination to build a new future.
