The Promised Land

In 18th century Denmark, poor war hero Ludvig Kahlen accepts a royal challenge to tame a windswept heath most people think cannot be farmed. He dreams of land, status, and a new life, but the area is controlled by nobleman Frederik de Schinkel, whose power and cruelty reach into every village. As Kahlen builds his small settlement and shelters runaway maid Ann Barbara and her husband, harsh weather, hunger, and violent threats turn the frontier into a stark battle between ambition, survival, and the cost of progress.
