In New York City in 1967, easygoing Merchant Marine Chickie Donohue spends his nights at a neighborhood bar worrying about friends fighting in Vietnam. On a drunken dare, he vows to sail overseas and surprise them with cans of American beer. With a duffel bag full of Pabst and more confidence than sense, he stumbles into a war zone, where funny mishaps mix with real danger. The story follows his chaotic beer run as it tests his loyalty, shakes his beliefs, and turns a naive friend into an unlikely witness to history.
