Set in early 1900s rural Georgia, the story follows Celie, a young Black woman pushed from an abusive home into marriage with the harsh farmer Mister. Over the years she endures hard work and cruelty, clinging to memories of her sister Nettie and letters she may never see. When bold Sofia and glamorous blues singer Shug Avery enter her life, Celie slowly discovers the power of friendship, faith, and music. The film balances painful injustice with moments of humor and joy, creating an emotional, hopeful portrait of survival and sisterhood.
