The Children's Train

In bombed‑out, postwar Naples, lively boy Amerigo grows up in grinding poverty with his single mother Antonietta, who can barely feed him. When a relief program offers southern children a winter with host families in the wealthier north, she sends him on the so‑called trains of happiness. Amerigo is placed with Derna, a reserved woman involved with the Communist Party, and slowly discovers a world of full plates, school lessons, and music. The film follows his shifting loyalties and search for belonging with a gentle, bittersweet tone that balances hardship with warmth and quiet hope.
