The Brutalist

Set in the late 1940s, the film follows Hungarian Jewish architect and camp survivor László Tóth as he arrives in America with almost nothing, hoping to rebuild his career and reunite with his wife Erzsébet. In rural Pennsylvania his talent catches the eye of powerful industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, who hires him to design an ambitious concrete institute that mixes a library, gym, theater, and chapel. Their uneasy partnership and the immense project expose László to class tension, prejudice, and the emotional cost of turning trauma into monumental art.
