Directors: Todd Field

Stars: Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer

The film follows Lydia Tár, a celebrated conductor at the helm of a major German orchestra. At the height of her fame, she juggles an upcoming book, a live recording of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, and a complex family life. The story stays close to rehearsals, auditions, and backstage politics, showing how she shapes music and people with absolute control. As whispers about her past choices grow louder, the mood shifts from cool confidence to tense, uneasy suspense. This is a slow, absorbing character study set in the rarefied world of classical music and professional power.
