Agnes is a quiet literature professor in rural New England, still living in the old house she once shared with her best friend Lydie. Now Lydie arrives from the city, pregnant and full of news, while Agnes feels stuck after a painful violation by a trusted mentor. The story follows her days of teaching, awkward dinners and late night conversations with Lydie, neighbor Gavin and a new kitten, as she slowly tests what it means to feel safe again. The tone mixes sharp, dry humor with honest sadness, turning a story about trauma into a warm, offbeat look at friendship, resilience and finding a way forward.
