Set in modern-day Tokyo, the story follows Phillip, a down-on-his-luck American actor who has stayed on after a long-ago commercial shoot and now scrapes by in a tiny apartment and awkward auditions. When a discreet agency offers him work as a stand-in relative and even a groom for hire, he begins appearing in strangers’ weddings and living rooms, pretending to be exactly who they need. The tone is warm, gently funny, and tinged with loneliness, watching him juggle costumes, scripts, and real feelings as the line between acting and everyday life grows blurry, and he wonders how real connection fits into a rented role.
