Pearl

In 1918 Texas, a young farm wife is stuck on her family’s isolated homestead, tending to her paralyzed father under the watch of a stern, religious mother. While her husband fights overseas, she sneaks off to town to watch dance films and dreams of being on stage, desperate for a glamorous life far from chores and loneliness. A charming projectionist and a local church dance audition offer a fragile chance to escape, but her intense ambition and buried frustrations give the story a jittery, slow-burn horror tone. This prequel to X explores how her fierce dreams and repressed fears color every scene, mixing candy-colored visuals with a creeping, character-driven horror vibe.
