Living

A buttoned up civil servant in 1953 London, Mr Williams spends his days buried in paperwork at the public works office and his nights alone in a quiet house. After a doctor tells him his time is short, he slips away from his routine, visiting a seaside resort with a charming but slightly decadent stranger and later bonding with Margaret, a former junior colleague whose energy and warmth unsettle his rigid habits. As he searches for meaning in a city still rebuilding after the war, he pours himself into a modest project for local children, in a drama that feels gentle, sad and quietly hopeful.
