A jaded 74-year-old class pet lizard has spent decades in a Florida elementary school terrarium with his sarcastic turtle friend, watching fifth graders come and go. When he learns he may have only one year left, he starts dreaming of escape and a real bucket list. Instead, he is pulled into the lives of the nervous kids in his classroom and a fearsome substitute teacher, becoming an unlikely listener, mentor, and friend. The film mixes offbeat humor, heartfelt moments, and catchy musical numbers in a warm, playful tone.
