In 16th-century Stratford-upon-Avon, Agnes Hathaway is a young healer who roams fields and forests, trusted by some neighbors and feared by others who whisper that she is a witch. William Shakespeare, a Latin tutor with big dreams, falls in love with her, and together they build a noisy household of three children while his work slowly pulls him toward the theaters of London. When illness creeps into their home, the family is pushed into harsh new realities, and Agnes and William struggle to make sense of loss, faith, and art. The tone is intimate and quiet, full of earth, candlelight, and the weight of unspoken feelings.
