After a long life, Joan wakes up in a quiet, dreamlike holding place for the dead, where everyone has a week to design their perfect forever. Guided by quirky staff and surrounded by other souls weighing their choices, she must decide whether to spend eternity with Larry, the gruff but devoted man she raised a family with, or Luke, the young first husband who died decades ago and has waited for her ever since. The story balances high-concept fantasy with tender, funny moments, exploring aging, memory, and the complicated truth of lifelong love rather than simple wish fulfillment.
