Set in the Bay Area in 2008, the film follows 13-year-old Chris, a Taiwanese American kid spending the last summer before high school trying to reinvent himself. He lives with his strict but loving mom, his outspoken older sister, and his demanding grandma while his dad works far away in Taiwan. Chris is not one of the cool kids, so he films silly videos with his friends, crushes on a girl he mostly talks to online, and tags along with older skateboarders who treat him as their cameraman. The story balances painfully awkward teen moments, early social media highs and lows, and messy family fights with warmth, humor, and affection.
