Cardinal Lawrence, played by Ralph Fiennes, is put in charge of choosing the next pope after the sudden death of the current one. Sealed inside the Vatican with more than a hundred cardinals, he must guide a secret vote while church politics, clashing visions of faith and old rivalries boil over. As he navigates pressure from powerful figures like Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow’s characters, he begins to sense a hidden conspiracy in the corridors and chapels. The story stays mostly within the locked, candlelit halls, creating a quiet, suspenseful thriller about power, belief and the cost of uncovering buried truths.
