Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.

Set in the 1970s, eleven-year-old Margaret Simon leaves New York City for the New Jersey suburbs and faces the confusing rush of growing up. With new friends, a secret school club and her first crushes, she worries over bras, periods and fitting in. At home, her loving but stressed parents and outspoken grandmother add humor and tension, especially as her mixed Jewish and Christian family tiptoes around questions of religion. The film has a warm, funny, honest tone that treats Margaret's awkward feelings and big questions with empathy and gentle charm.
